چکیده

Electromagnetic disturbances emitted from microwave ovens may cause serious interference with Bluetooth systems in the 2.4 GHz ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) band. In this paper, the bit error rate (BER) performance of Bluetooth systems interfered by microwave oven noises is analyzed using a microwave oven noise model which consists of FM periodic tone-bursts. Employing Bennett’s method, BER of the GFSK demodulation with a frequency discriminator is theoretically evaluated. Numerical simulations are also conducted to verify the validity of the analysis. The results show that 1) BER is strongly affected by the probability density of the oven noise frequency, and that 2) the FM tone-bursts model for the oven noise yields better BER performance than the conventional pulsed Gaussian noise model ( -mixture model) under high CNR conditions.

EMC’04/Sendai Suppression of Microwave Oven Interference in WLAN Systems Using Adaptive Filters

Since WLAN (Wireless LAN: IEEE802. 11b) systems shares the 2.4 GHz frequency band with microwave ovens, interference caused by the radiated noise from the ovens is a serious problem. This paper proposes the use of adaptive filters to suppress the microwave oven interference in DS-SS (Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum) WLAN links. This method is based on the fact that an oven noise can be regarded...

EMC’04/Sendai Three-wire Analysis Model to Predict SI and EMC Effects

Accurate driver and package models are necessary to analyze the signal integrity (SI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) issues on digital circuits. 2-wire models that assume an ideal power distribution system (PDS) are commonly used in modeling the SI of signal lines. This assumption makes real SI and EMC analysis worthless or at least only useful under certain restrictions. In order to a...

Efficient Electromagnetic Simu- lation of Shielding Mechanisms in Microwave Ovens

The door to a microwave oven forms part of the heating cavity, allowing access to the oven interior. The seal around the door is never perfect, so electromagnetic fi elds will leak out of the oven, potentially interfering with other electrical equipment or exceeding safety limits for power levels in human operators. Oven designs have to meet legal requirements for the amount of power which can ...

iSCISM: Interference Sensing and Coexistence in the ISM Band

1. Introduction A multitude of commercial devices transmit in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz ISM band, and these devices are likely to interfere with each other. These effects are compounded in highly populated metropolitan areas with large numbers of microwave ovens, Bluetooth devices, cord-less phones, wireless game controllers, and other devices which occupy the ISM band. This contributes to an ever...
